Get Rid of the Excess Before You Pack.
No one wants to move stuff from house to house that you don’t plan on keeping. Not to mention you’ll be able to pack faster if you purge the things you don’t want.
Experts say 6 weeks before moving is the optimal time to start packing up all your non-essentials. So while you’re taking inventory of what to start boxing up, here’s a list of a few things you may want to consider getting rid of:
- Old papers (though be sure to use a shredder to destroy any personal documents)
- Misshapen or old throw / bed pillows
- The books that you keep saying you’ll read but never do
- Chipped dishes or glasses
- Broken electronics or appliances you swear you’ll fix once you move
- Fridge magnets and knick-knacks that have no personal or sentimental value
- Clothes. Clothes. Clothes. There’s always at least one shirt you never wear!
We wish you the best packing!
